To properly understand the importance of the contents of the Beatitudes, we must establish that for
every Beatitude stated in Matthew Chapter Five, there is a contrasting and opposing “attitude” that
marks the people of the world. For instance, if one does not cultivate God’s call to be “poor in spirit”,
then the alternative pathway is to remain among the “proud in spirit” of this world. We are to be
“transformed” not “conformed” to this present world (Rom. 12:2) . There are two sources at work that
produce such contrasting viewpoints:

to be “POOR IN SPIRIT”… to be “PROUD IN SPIRIT”…

It is easy to see why this is so: The origin of the Word comes from God (Jn.1:1-2) , and this present
world is under the power and influence of the Wicked One (1 Jn. 5:19)
