What have we seen so far about the importance of peace? (1) The gospel itself is to be presented to the
lost as “the gospel of peace” in which sinful and rebellious man can obtain “peace with God” rather than
remain “alienated and enemies of God.” (2) By means of repentance and the new birth one enters the
spiritual Kingdom of God which is governed by three unique principles, “righteousness, peace and Joy in
the Holy Spirit.” Let us now add a third aspect of peace:
3. “PEACE” IS A FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK IN THE BELIEVER
“WALK IN THE SPIRIT, AND YOU SHALL NOT FULFILL THE LUST OF THE FLESH.
FOR THE FLESH LUSTS AGAINST THE SPIRIT, AND THE SPIRIT AGAINST THE FLESH;
AND THESE TWO ARE CONTRARY TO ONE ANOTHER…
PEACE,THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE, JOY,
LONGSUFFERING, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS,
SELF-CONTROL…AND THOSE WHO ARE CHRIST’S HAVE CRUCIFIED THE FLESH WITH ITS
PASSIONS AND DESIRES. IF WE LIVE IN THE SPIRIT, LET US ALSO WALK IN THE SPIRIT.”
Gal. 5:16-25 excerpts
The Kingdom of God is not only governed by peace (along with righteousness and joy) in the Holy Spirit
(Rom.14:17-19), but the Christian, as a subject in that Kingdom, is also empowered by the Spirit with nine of
His supernatural fruits, among which is the subject of this newsletter “peace.” We are going to introduce
some of the mandates given to all believers pertaining to the importance of peace. Keep this point in mind
that we are talking about a fruit of the Holy Spirit being manifested in the life of the believer who chooses
to “walk in the Spirit.” “BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING,
BUT IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION,
WITH THANKSGIVING, LET YOU REQUESTS BE MADE KNOWN TO GOD;
AND THE PEACE OF GOD, WHICH SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING,
WILL GUARD YOUR HEARTS AND MINDS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS…THE THINGS WHICH YOU LEARNED AND
RECEIVED AND HEARD AND SAW IN ME, THESE DO, AND THE GOD OF PEACE WILL BE WITH YOU.”
Phil.4:6-9
“…TO BE SPIRITUALLY MINDED “GOD HAS CALLED US TO PEACE.”
IS LIFE AND PEACE.” Rom. 8:6 1 Cor. 7:15
“AND LET THE PEACE OF GOD “BE DILIGENT TO BE FOUND BY HIM
RULE IN YOUR HEARTS, TO WHICH ALSO IN PEACE,
YOU WERE CALLED IN ONE BODY…”
Col. 3:15 WITHOUT SPOT AND BLAMELESS…”
“PURSUE PEACE WITH ALL MEN, 2 Pet. 3:14
AND HOLINESS, WITHOUT WHICH
NO ONE WILL SEE THE LORD.” “BE AT PEACE AMONG YOURSELVES.”
Heb. 12:14 1 Thess. 5:13
“NOW THE FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
“BECOME COMPLETE… IS SOWN IN PEACE
BE OF ONE MIND; BY THOSE WHO MAKE PEACE.”
James 3:18
LIVE IN PEACE;
AND THE GOD OF LOVE AND PEACE “…YOU WERE CALLED TO THIS, THAT YOU
MAY INHERIT A BLESSING…LET HIM
WILL BE WITH YOU.”
SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT.”
2 Cor. 13:11 1 Pet. 3:9-11
“…HAVE A WALK WORTHY “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS,
OF THE CALLING WITH WHICH YOU
WERE CALLED…ENDEAVORING TO FOR THEY SHALL BE CALLED SONS OF GOD.”
KEEP THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT Mat. 5:9
IN THE BOND OF PEACE.” Eph. 4:1-3
I remember a man of God once saying, “The Christian life is not difficult, it is impossible!” God has so
designed the Christian life to require a complete dependence upon the enabling power of the Holy Spirit.
Many of the above verses could be elaborated upon, but I would suggest rather a quiet contemplation and
meditation on what God requires of His people in this area of “peace.” Christianity is to be a religion of
peace that governs every facet of our interaction with either believers or unbelievers. As Christians, we
are to be ear-marked with the doctrine of peace!
