One final concept I want to give you concerning the doctrine of peace. It has to do the this mandate

given to us as God’s people today to “PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM:

MAY THEY PROSPER WHO LOVE YOU. PEACE BE WITHIN YOUR WALLS,
PROSPERITY WITHIN YOUR PALACES. FOR THE SAKE OF MY BRETHREN AND

         COMPANIONS, I WILL NOW SAY, ‘PEACE BE WITHIN YOU.’
BECAUSE OF THE HOUSE OF THE LORD OUR GOD, I WILL SEEK YOUR GOOD.”
                                                                             Psalm 122:6-9

                                      We are not being asked to pray for
                                       “peace as the world gives.” Jesus

                                            has already told us that in the
                                          world God’s people would have
                                           tribulation. Israel is heading for
                                         even greater tribulation than she
                                      has experienced so far. Zechariah
                                         prophesies that two-thirds of the
                                      Jewish people will be cut off at the
                                      Lord’s second coming (Zech. 13:8).
                                       That is twice as many as they lost

                                                in the Holocaust. How then
                                              are we to pray for its peace?

The answer to that question is found in the definition of what constitutes God’s peace. In the 16th Chapter
of Jeremiah we find God bringing judgment upon the house of Israel for her sins. In this verse lies the
definition of peace, and how we can “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”:

                “FOR THUS SAYS THE LORD: ‘DO NOT ENTER THE HOUSE OF MOURNING,
                                          NOR GO TO LAMENT OR BEMOAN THEM;

                    FOR I HAVE TAKEN AWAY MY PEACE FROM THIS PEOPLE,’
                  SAYS THE LORD, ‘LOVINGKINDNESS AND MERCIES.’”

                                                                      Jer. 16:5

God defines what His peace is that He is taking away from Israel. It is His “lovingkindness and mercies.”
How then should we “pray for the peace of Jerusalem?” We should beseech God that He would not take
away His lovingkindness or His mercies from His people.

Peace marks the gospel, the Kingdom of God, the Holy Spirit of God, and peace is to mark the people of
God, the church. What is the essence of that peace? It is to manifest God’s lovingkindness and His
mercies to all of mankind, even the Muslims! We are the people who have the real religion of peace!

“THIS IS THE WAY THAT YOU SHALL BLESS THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL.
                                           SAY TO THEM:

                        ‘THE LORD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU;
                THE LORD MAKE HIS FACE TO SHINE UPON YOU,

                                AND BE GRACIOUS TO YOU;
              THE LORD LIFT UP HIS COUNTENANCE UPON YOU,

                     AND GIVE YOU PEACE.’

      SO SHALL THEY PUT MY NAME ON THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL,
                                  AND I WILL BLESS THEM.”
                                             Num. 6:23-27
