“OH, GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD, The well-used phrase,
FOR HE IS GOOD! “His mercy endures forever,”
FOR HIS appears 41 times in the Old Testament!
This is the chief character trait that God lists in
describing Himself.
ENDURES FOREVER!” “His mercy endures forever” is the phrase the
`1 Chron. 16:34 people used in praising God that resulted in fire
falling from heaven in a manifestation of the
glory of God filling the temple to the point that
the people could not even remain standing (2
Chron. 7:1-6). Place importance on what God
emphasizes in His Word, and you will get a
proper response from God.
There is a very applicable principle in the story of Job about his three well-meaning friends who came
down to straighten out his misconceptions of who God is. However, in the end, after several lengthy
chapters of their misguided counsel, God charged Job’s zealous friends with these stinging words of
rebuke: “…MY WRATH IS AROUSED AGAINST YOU AND YOUR TWO FRIENDS,
FOR YOU HAVE NOT SPOKEN OF ME WHAT IS RIGHT,
AS MY SERVANT JOB HAS.”
Job 42:7
Careless doctrines of false emphasis such as the Calvinist-based denominations present about the
supreme character and nature of God being “absolutely sovereign” may bring down the same threat of
wrath upon them as God spoke against Job’s three friends who “…have not spoken of Me what is
right.” Not even once does God speak of Himself as being “a sovereign God” as do the Calvinists. In
fact, the word appears only once in Scripture, and that not of God at all, but “His mercy” is rampant
throughout. God’s “sovereignty” is a false emphasis, a character assassination of who God really is.
God is exactly what He says He is in His Word, namely, He is merciful and wants His people to “be
merciful just as your Father is also merciful.” Let’s get the right message!
