IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER

“…SIN “THEREFORE DO
LIES AT THE DOOR. NOT LET SIN REIGN
AND ITS DESIRE
IS FOR YOU, IN YOUR MORTAL
BUT YOU SHOULD BODY, THAT YOU
RULE OVER IT.” SHOULD OBEY IT

Gen. 4:7 IN ITS LUSTS.”

                                                      Rom. 6:12

In the above passages, one from the Old and one from the New Testament, we can see that God’s
will is unchanging pertaining to dealing with the issue of sin in the life of His followers. We are to rule

                                                       and reign over it.

If you look carefully at these two passages, you will see that sin is not just a innate word describing
what we do that is displeasing to God, but rather that sin is an evil force that “lies at the door” (of our

heart) and “its desire is for you”, not just that you at times struggle with desire for it (Gen. 4:7).
Paul confirms this truth about sin in stating that sin has its own lusts (Rom. 6:12).

We are to deal thoroughly with the issue of sin in our lives.
                                       A. W. Tozer pungently stated it this way:

                                                                “DEAR CHRISTIAN,
                                                    EITHER YOU DEAL THOROUGHLY
WITH THE ISSUE OF SIN IN YOUR LIFE,
OR SIN WILL DEAL THOROUGHLY WITH YOU.”

                                                                       A.W. Tozer

Theologians like the late A. W. Tozer are rapidly disappearing in modern-day
Christendom. They are being replaced with what Tozer used to call “paper-back
theologians” who promote half-truths, watered-down, distorted teachings about
sin’s relationship to the grace of God. Such distortions are lulling God’s people to
sleep pertaining to the issue of sin. Paul warns all believers:

                                                                     “AWAKE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS,
AND DO NOT SIN; FOR SOME DO NOT HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD.

I SPEAK THIS TO YOUR SHAME.”
                                                                                                 1 Cor. 15:34
