AA..WW..TToozzeerr Today’s popular worldly buzz word is “total makeover.” Tozer is right: it is easier to
change the image of God into something we are presently comfortable with than to
be changed into the uncomfortable image God presents of Himself in the Word.
The testimony recorded of Jesus’ life on earth is
that He was

Isaiah 53:3
“THE You can buy Bibles, gift cards, banners, wall
LAUGHING plagues and even dinner plates that change
JESUS” Jesus into this preferred image as He “laughs
His way through life” right up to the agony of
the cross.
Let us not forget the immense popularity of
“THE LAUGHING REVIVAL” movement that emerged in 1994
and that swept through Christendom like a consuming fire.
So widely was this unbiblical concept endorsed,
I felt compelled to write a concerned newsletter in 1995 entitled,
Neither the present “LAUGHING JESUS” or the previous
“LAUGHING REVIVAL” has any merit at all in Scripture.
Both are counterfeits presented under the banner of
“revelational truth”, but are in essence, subtle substitutes
designed by Satan to keep God’s people away from what is
really life-changing truth capable of sanctifying them (Jn. 17:17)
and setting them free (Jn. 8:32).
It is not that God is against laughter, for King Solomon states
clearly:
“TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON,
A TIME FOR EVERY PURPOSE UNDER HEAVEN…
A TIME TO WEEP AND A TIME TO LAUGH;
A TIME TO MOURN, AND A TIME TO DANCE…”

So, it is ok at times to laugh. However, laughter is not singled out as a
distinguishing mark of the character or life of Jesus. Neither is it a
mark of revival. In fact, Solomon gives us a proper perspective of
laughter when compared to the more weighty subject of mourning:
