Let us now examine the three distinct areas
that govern the Beatitude of MOURNING.
They all have to do with the issue of sin:
MOURN OVER PERSONAL
1
“…MY SORROW IS CONTINUALLY BEFORE ME,
FOR I WILL DECLARE MY INIQUITY; I WILL BE IN ANGUISH OVER MY SIN…”
Psm. 38:17-18
MOURN MOURN
OVER OVER
2 LOST “BLESSED ARE THEY WHO MOURN” SINNING 3
“…I HAVE GREAT SORROW AND CONTINUED “…AND I SHALL MOURN FOR MANY WHO HAVE
GRIEF IN MY HEART…. MY HEART’S DESIRE SINNED BEFORE AND HAVE NOT REPENTED
AND PRAYER TO GOD FOR ISRAEL IS OF THE UNCLEANNESS, FORNICATION,
THAT THEY MAY BE SAVED.”
Rom. 9:2,10:1 AND LICENTIOUSNESS WHICH THEY HAVE PRACTICED.”
2 Cor. 12:21
1 WE ARE TO MOURN OVER PERSONAL
“…MY SORROW IS CONTINUALLY BEFORE ME,
FOR I WILL DECLARE MY INIQUITY; I WILL BE IN ANGUISH OVER MY SIN…”
Psm. 38:17-18
It all begins with our own sin. If we don’t mourn over committing personal sin as a Christian, we will not,
and cannot , properly mourn over lost sinners or sinning saints. We can in hypocrisy be a judge, but not
one who mourns. Jesus would tell us, “Physician, heal yourself” ( Luke 4:23). However, there is an
entrenched doctrinal error in wide circulation that prevents Christians from looking at existing sin in
their own lives:
“WHEN GOD FORGIVES, HE DRAWS THE MARK THROUGH EVERY SIN WHICH THE
BELIEVER EVER HAS COMMITTED, OR EVER WILL COMMIT. . .
THEY ARE ALL GONE AT ONCE! NOT A SINGLE SIN SHALL EVER STAND AGAINST YOU,
NOR SHALL YOU EVER BE PUNISHED FOR A SINGLE SIN…”
Charles Spurgeon-spiritual father of modern-day Calvinistic grace teachers
Put your trust in such flowing dissertations if you want to, Charles Spurgeon
but you won’t be in harmony with the teachings of the apostle Paul about
dealing with sin in the life of a believer. Listen to the advice of A.W. Tozer:
“DEAR CHRISTIAN, EITHER YOU DEAL THOROUGHLY WITH THE ISSUE OF SIN IN YOUR LIFE,
OR SIN WILL DEAL THOROUGHLY WITH YOU.” A.W. Tozer
A.W.Tozer You will never mourn over sin if you think you don’t have any in God’s sight. Measure
Spurgeon’s doctrine against Paul’s statements pertaining to sin in the life of a believer:
“WHAT SHALL I SAY THEN? SHALL WE CONTINUE IN SIN THAT GRACE MAY ABOUND? CERTAINLY NOT!
HOW SHALL WE WHO DIED TO SIN LIVE ANY LONGER IN IT…LIKEWISE YOU ALSO, RECKON YOURSELVES
TO BE DEAD INDEED UNTO SIN, BUT ALIVE TO GOD IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD. THEREFORE DO NOT LET
SIN REIGN IN YOUR MORTAL BODY THAT YOU SHOULD OBEY IT IN ITS LUSTS. AND DO NOT PRESENT
YOUR MEMBERS AS INSTRUMENTS OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS TO SIN…FOR SIN SHALL NOT HAVE DOMINION
OVER YOU, FOR YOU ARE NOT UNDER LAW BUT UNDER GRACE. WHAT THEN? SHALL WE SIN BECAUSE WE
ARE NOT UNDER LAW BUT UNDER GRACE? CERTAINLY NOT!” Rom. 6:1-15 excerpts
