“IN THIS MANNER, THEREFORE, PRAY:
Let us continue to examine The next statement we want to
this list working as we have, examine from our list is the
from the bottom to the top. fifth one which says:
5. “YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.”
This is to be the personal confession of every follower of Christ simply because it was the very
confession of Christ Himself while on earth:
“…I DO NOT SEEK MY OWN WILL BUT THE WILL OF THE FATHER WHO SENT ME.” Jn. 5:30
“…FATHER IF IT IS YOUR WILL, REMOVE THIS CUP FROM ME;
NEVERTHELESS NOT MY WILL, BUT YOURS BE DONE.” Luke 22:42
The priority of Christ on earth was to do the Father’s will. The priority of a Christian on earth is to do the
Father’s will. “Not My will” was the battle cry of Jesus Christ. It must become the battle cry of every
follower of Christ. It is important to note that Jesus had a will of His own, but He always subjected it to
the higher will of God His Father. We too have a will of our own which must likewise be subservient to
the higher, expressed will of God for us. This is the essence of denying ourselves, taking up our cross
daily, and following after Christ (see Luke 9:23). Romans gives us the way to become a doer of God’s will:
“I BESEECH YOU THEREFORE, BRETHREN…THAT YOU PRESENT YOUR BODIES A LIVING SACRIFICE,
HOLY, ACCEPTABLE TO GOD, WHICH IS YOU REASONABLE SERVICE…DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS
WORLD, BUT BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, THAT YOU MAY PROVE
(DEMONSTRATE) WHAT IS THAT GOOD AND ACCEPTABLE AND PERFECT WILL OF GOD.” Rom. 12:1-2
We need to be as serious and dedicated to doing God’s will as was Jesus. Let Jesus tell us why doing
God’s will must be a high priority:
“NOT EVERYONE WHO SAYS TO ME, ‘LORD, LORD,’ SHALL ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN,
BUT HE WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER IN HEAVEN.” Matt. 7:21
6. “YOUR KINGDOM COME...”
If you had to write out in fifty words or less For the most part, I have found that believers
the meaning of this next proclamation of in Christ think this saying means that we are
the Lord’s Prayer, what would you say?
What would comprise your understanding to pray for the return of Jesus Christ to
of the meaning of this saying? establish His Millennial Kingdom on earth and
rule the nations with a rod of iron.
Although the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ is a valid expression of the Kingdom of God in
Scripture, this FUTURE manifestation of the Kingdom will not help us as Christians in this present life,
unless we realize that there is a PRESENT manifestation of the Kingdom of God already on earth! It is
this PRESENT manifestation of the Kingdom of God to which this proclamation of the Lord’s Prayer is
applicable. As born-again believers in Christ, we are to pray, “Your Kingdom come” and be manifest in
our lives as followers of Christ! The Kingdom of God does not begin with the Millennial reign of Christ
on earth, but rather it begins with the Kingdom of God abiding NOW in the hearts of every born-again
believer on earth. The Kingdom of God is not a physical Kingdom abiding in a geographical location!
Jesus emphatically said:
“MY KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD. IF MY KINGDOM WERE OF THIS WORLD,
MY SERVANTS WOULD FIGHT…BUT NOW MY KINGDOM IS NOT FROM HERE.”
Jn.18:36
“THE KINGDOM OF GOD DOES NOT COME WITH SIGNS TO BE OBSERVED OR WITH
VISIBLE DISPLAY…THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS WITHIN YOU, IN YOUR HEART…”
Luke 17:20-21 Amplified
