The above sampling of Scriptures conveys what kind of knowledge God wants us to acquire. It is the
knowledge of God. Proverbs states, “…the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Prov. 9:10).
Throughout God’s Word you will find that the proper emphasis upon knowledge will be that which is God-
centered, not man-centered. Consider Hosea the prophet’s exhortation:
“LET US KNOW, LET US PURSUE
FOR I DESIRE MERCY AND NOT SACRIFICE, AND
MORE THAN BURNT OFFERINGS.”
Hosea 6: 2,6
This is the same Hosea who earlier reproved the people of God with these words, “My people are
destroyed for lack of knowledge….because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you…” (Hos.
4:6). In Romans Paul reminds us, “…what may be known of God…God has shown it to them…although
they knew God…they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased
mind…” (Rom. 1:19,21,28). Contrast that sad picture of God’s people with this promise from God:
“…BUT THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THEIR GOD
SHALL BE STRONG AND CARRY OUT GREAT EXPLOITS.” Dan. 11:32
