       THE
THREE FACES

        OF

A PROPHETIC LOOK AT SATAN’S ATTEMPT
TO CORRUPT THE ESPOUSED BRIDE OF CHRIST

“The Three faces of Eve” is the title of a book and movie based on a true story of a neurotic (perhaps
demon-possessed) woman whose life was tremendously traumatized by the manifestation of triple

personalities. I have merely borrowed the title of this famous story to pungently dramatize the point that
the Scriptures portray Satan and his demonic hordes, by means of a threefold deceptive onslaught, are

presently seeking to corrupt the mind of the modern-day “Eve”, the church,
the espoused Bride of the “last Adam”, Jesus Christ.

That is a mouthful of a statement, so let us begin to establish its validity.

Paul the apostle sets the stage for this scenario with these two profound revelational statements from
his first and second epistles to the Church of Corinth:

“AND SO IT IS WRITTEN, ‘THE FIRST MAN ADAM BECAME A LIVING BEING.’
THE LAST ADAM BECAME A LIFE-GIVING SPIRIT.” 1 Cor. 15:45

“FOR I AM JEALOUS FOR YOU WITH GODLY JEALOUSY. FOR I HAVE BETROTHED
YOU TO ONE HUSBAND, THAT I MAY PRESENT YOU AS A CHASTE VIRGIN TO
CHRIST. BUT I FEAR, LEST SOMEHOW, AS THE SERPENT DECEIVED EVE BY HIS
CRAFTINESS, SO YOUR MINDS MAY BE CORRUPTED FROM THE SIMPLICITY
(“SEDUCED FROM WHOLEHEARTED AND SINCERE AND PURE DEVOTION”)
THAT IS IN CHRIST.” 2 Cor. 11:1-3

In the first statement, we find Paul comparing Christ to the original Adam. In the second statement, he
compares the Church to the deception of the original Eve. We know from the story in Genesis that Eve,
Adam’s wife, was formed by God out of a part of Adam’s body while he slept (Gen. 2:21-22). We also
know that the Church is the Body of Christ on earth (Col. 1:18). Is there a prophetic parallel here that
while the Church, as the Body of Christ on earth is “asleep”, in a spiritual sense, that God is forming
the Bride of Christ out of a portion of the Body of Christ?

A common understanding in Christianity is that the whole church is automatically the Bride of Christ
because they are members of the Body of Christ. No doubt that the Church is BETROTHED to Christ
as Paul states above. However, he expresses a concerning fear that this latter-day Eve might be
deceived by Satan as was her early counterpart. Paul’s fear is that the Church might not be found as a
“Chaste Virgin” when it becomes time to be presented to Christ. If this was not a valid possibility, then
Paul would have been in error to express such a concern. However, we also know that when the
Bridegroom comes for His Bride, He will find half of them to be ready as wise virgins, but the other half
will be left behind as foolish virgins (Matt. 25:1-13). Paul’s expressed fear for the Church is a valid one.
