“BUT I FEAR, LEST SOMEHOW, AS THE SERPENT DECEIVED EVE BY HIS CRAFTINESS, SO YOUR MINDS
MAY BE CORRUPTED FROM THE SIMPLICITY (“WHOLE-HEARTED AND PURE DEVOTION”) TO CHRIST.
FOR IF HE WHO COMES PREACHES…
…FOR SUCH ARE FALSE APOSTLES, DECEITFUL WORKERS, TRANSFORMING THEMSELVES INTO APOSTLES
OF CHRIST. AND NO WONDER! FOR SATAN HIMSELF TRANSFORMS HIMSELF INTO AN ANGEL OF LIGHT.
THEREFORE IT IS NOT GREAT THING IF HIS MINISTERS ALSO TRANSFORM THEMSELVES INTO MINISTERS
OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, WHOSE END WILL BE ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS.” 2 Cor. 11:3-4, 13-15
Are you putting up with the preaching of a Jesus other than the one Paul preached? This is the question that we
must all consider. We are told by the apostle John, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits,
whether they are of God…” (1 Jn. 4:1). Paul likewise told believers that they should “…received the Word with all
readiness, and search the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things are so” (Acts 17:11). Simply put, we must
compare the image of Jesus that is being presented to us today with the image of Him found in the Scriptures, not
just considering carefully selected passages presented to us by men, but rather “…as the Holy Spirit teaches,
comparing spiritual things with spiritual” (1 Cor. 2:13). What I am saying to you is that we must not endorse only half
of what the Scriptures reveal about Jesus. If we allow such a limited picture to be presented to us as the whole,
then we may end up embracing “another Jesus” that leads to the corruption of God’s people by Satan from a life
of “…wholehearted and pure devotion to Christ” (2 Cor. 11:3 Amplified). Remember, these are satanic corruptive
deceptions that come by means of preaching!
Let us consider a few examples of how “another Jesus” can be presented to God’s people. The word savior
appears 41 times in all of Scripture, but the Name Lord appears 5,000 times. Which do we hear preached as the
image of Jesus, Savior or Lord? Are we to confess Jesus as Savior or as Lord? (Rom. 10:9). It is a fact that Jesus
saves. However, it is also factual that it is THE LORD Jesus who saves us.
I keep this balanced perspective of Jesus pasted on the wall outside our
bookstore as a constant reminder of who The Lord is. This passage from
Isaiah 33 states clearly that it is The Lord who saves us, but note well that
The Lord who saves us is also “OUR JUDGE, OUR LAWGIVER and
OUR KING.” Do you hear much modern-day preaching about our Savior
also being our Judge, our Lawgiver and our King? Minimize the higher
revelations of who The Lord is and we end up in danger of not obeying
our Judge, Lawgiver and King! Far too many of God’s people only know
Jesus as Savior. It is all they are being taught. His Lordship has been (Isa. 33:22)
greatly diminished in spite of the fact that we are to confess Him as Lord in
order to be saved (Rom. 10:9).
The word “Lord” means “Master, controller, ruler.” You can call Jesus Lord and yet not allow Him to be the Master,
controller, and ruler of your life. In fact Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the
kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven” (Mat. 7:21). In another place, Jesus
challenges His followers with the words, “But why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”
(Luke 6:46). It is quite possible to belong to Jesus and yet be as ignorant as pagan Pharaoh who said to Moses,
“Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice?…I do not know the Lord…” (Ex. 5:2). We do not lack for a proper
emphasis of the Lordship of Jesus Christ in the Scriptures. Rather, we are lacking for a preaching of who Jesus
Christ is. He is Lord! (Judge, Lawgiver, King, Savior). Cling to the favored partial images of God and ignore the
rest of what is written, and we can end up with “another Jesus.” Paul warned believers to hold a balanced
perspective of God: “THEREFORE CONSIDER THE GOODNESS AND THE SEVERITY OF GOD;
ON THOSE WHO FELL, SEVERITY; BUT TOWARD YOU, GOODNESS,
IF YOU CONTINUE IN HIS GOODNESS. OTHERWISE YOU ALSO WILL BE CUT OFF.” Rom. 11:22
The Jews were cut off from salvation due to their unbelief (Rom.11:.20). Paul says to the church, “…He may not
spare you either…you also will be cut off” (Rom. 11:21-22). That is the complete image Paul preached of Jesus, and
yet we have these contrary doctrines permeating the church today such as “Once saved, always saved” and
“Unconditional eternal security.” That is the presentation of “another Jesus” than the one Paul preached. Do not
think it is only the Mormons who present the erroneous concept of “another Jesus.” It is also being done among
Protestant born-again churches as well!
